Dear Race and Development Team Families,
This weekend we held our first Goldsmith Board House Race and results have been sent to the Grizzly and are posted on the Snow Summit Sports Teams website. Congratulations to all the athletes who raced!
We also had two masters racers (over the age of 19) who raced. Remember that the Goldsmith races are open to all age levels and skill levels. Moms, Dads, and siblings are invited to race and compare their times to the athletes. They just need a completed EZ Waiver, a $20 entry, and either a pass or a $20 race lift ticket that they can purchase at Registration in the Tyndall Haus. Future Goldsmith races will be held on January 17, February 7, March 6, and Saturday, March 19. Registration is open from 7:30AM to 9:00AM on Goldsmith race days.
The teams would also like to thank a couple of wonderful team supporters who worked “behind the scenes” to ensure that our first race of the season would be a success. They rescued the day and you probably didn’t even know that it happened. Sometime last summer, when offices were being moved, our timing equipment disappeared. Kyle kept searching, thinking it was just misplaced, but he couldn’t locate it. We thought we had equipment coming, but it didn’t arrive. Team supporter, Chris Riddle, contacted Tom Spiegel of Team Big Bear on Sunday morning after we had determined that we had no equipment and none was coming. Tom hopped into his truck, drove to the desert, picked up his timing equipment, and got it to Summit in time to get it hooked up and in service for our race. Thank you, Chris, and THANK YOU, Tom! If you know Tom, tell him thanks from the teams!
Today, as a part of our Race Team Christmas Camp activities, Kyle Wormsbecker did a tuning clinic for parents. He had a list of tuning equipment that we thought everyone might like to look at. It will be attached to this letter.
Last weekend team travel invoices were sent to the families of the nine athletes who traveled to Mammoth to attend the Clifford Mann Open race. Payment for the invoices is due by January 10. Payments can be mailed to SSRT, PO Box 1384, Big Bear Lake, CA 92315, or placed in the envelope on the race room door that will be posted this weekend.
This weekend we will be holding our first USSA races. Revised work schedules were emailed to all team families this afternoon. Please make sure you open the email and check the schedule. The race is scheduled to be run on Side Show and it is just open to U10-U14 USSA racers. It is a part of the South Series. We provide lunches for workers, but they need to remember to wear layers, sunblock, sunglasses, and appropriate footwear. Remember that you will either be skiing or standing in the snow, so think ahead and plan for your own comfort.
Athletes and coaches report that they are having fun camp activities and athletes are making great progress! Happy holidays!
